On the night of this Thursday, May 4, members of the Municipal Council of the Simón Rodríguez municipality of Anzoátegui state swore in the president of that instance, Lilys Osuna, as mayor in charge of El Tigre, after the arrest of Ernesto Paraqueimaaccused of “incitement to hatred.”
The election and swearing in of Osuna was made at the headquarters of the Municipal Council in an extraordinary session installed with eight of the nine councilors that make up that legislative body, following the provisions of the Organic Law of Municipal Public Power in case of dismissal of the mayor.
Osuna, who becomes the first female mayor of that municipality, was sworn in with the vote of the councilors Rosa Yépez, Ana García, Miguel León, Jean Guevara, Carmen Ramírez, Assad Nakkour and Edgar Rodríguez.
The new mayor is general secretary of the Primero Venezuela party in the jurisdiction, won in the elections of November 21, 2021 with the parties of the Democratic Alliance and since then has been president of the Municipal Council.
In her first statements, the municipal president asked the community to remain calm in the face of recent events and requested that the physical integrity of former mayor Paraqueima be protected after his arrest.
Other appointments
At midnight this Thursday, Sheylla Ochoa, as the new president of the Municipal Council, and Ramón Sotillo as the main councilor of the municipality, who was a substitute for Osuna, were also sworn in.
On the other hand, the councilor for the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), was elected to assume the reins of that collegiate body in an extraordinary session called by the accidental president Ana García.
Meanwhile, the mayor Assab Nakkour proposed the appointment of Ochoa and the councilors Carmen Ramírez, Miguel León, Edgar Rodríguez, Rosa Yépez, Ana García and Ramón Sotillo approved it. Ochoa is also the municipal secretary of the PSUV.
“In El Tigre, order and compliance with the law will prevail”
The governor of the Anzoátegui state, Luis Marcano, spoke about the situation that has generated the arrest of the now former mayor of the municipality Simón RodríguezErnesto Paraqueima, ensuring that order and compliance with the Law will prevail in the jurisdiction.
In this sense, the regional president reported that within the framework of the National Constitution and the Municipal Public Power Law, the corresponding actions will be carried out in the coming days, but he made it clear that “it is within the Municipal Chamber from where the decision of the appointment of the next mayor or mayor of the jurisdiction should arise ”, he said.
Marcano recalled that after the words of Paraqueima, who referred in a derogatory way to a mural made by girls and boys with autism, the Attorney General’s Office issued an arrest warrant and subsequent detention of the citizen.
He also mentioned that the National Assembly described his conduct as infamous, which has also been repeated during his tenure as mayor. “The infamous episodes reached a climax when he referred to our girls and boys in a demeaning, humiliating way, not only to them but to their families and organizations that are dedicated to defending them,” he said.
He said that since his administration they were cautious and prudent despite the demands of different sectors of society, from those who received complaints to deal with the disastrous attitudes of the burgomaster to whom they repeatedly urged him to desist from this conduct.
The governor ratified the commitment to work for the supreme interests of the people, since the Tigre 90 Plan is carried out in the jurisdiction, which claims the southern city with the development of works to celebrate its ninetieth anniversary.
