Two new complaints were made known in the last hours, presented by two minors against the senator of the National Party, Gustavo Penadés, for alleged pedophilia and sexual exploitation of minors.
In the last few hours, the two young people gave a statement to the Prosecutor’s Office in relation to the ongoing investigation against Senator Penadés, who is in the eye of the hurricane after the public denunciation of the PN militant, Romina Celeste Papasso Oliver.
To date, at least four complaints of sexual abuse have been filed against the legislator, all of which are being sponsored by the Legal Office of the University of the Republic. From this organization they report that “There are quite a few actions and more victims.”
Soledad Suárez, the firm’s lawyer, declared on Wednesday at a press conference that her four clients (Romina Celeste Papasso and three minors) have already given their statements to the prosecutor’s office. The last two alleged victims reported incidents that are “recent.”
They are much more recent compared to the case of Romina, Suárez said, which happened when she was a minor and had not yet transitioned to her gender identity.
Suárez mentioned that the modus operandi described by the victims is “reiterated” in various statements. “The accounts are pretty consistent overall,” he said.
Penadés denies all the accusations
The lawyer pointed out that it is “relevant” for the public to know that there are more victims represented by the mentioned solidarity legal office. “The only victim of ours who decided to make this public was Romina, the others asked us for shelter and protection. Knowing that there are more victims is relevant so that other people who may be in this situation know that they are not alone, ”she commented, adding that the office is“ satisfied ”with the“ pace of the investigation ”.
Senator Penadés denies the complaints that now fall on his head, while the National Party avoids talking about the issue at an institutional level and keeps him in his position as senator. He has not been formally asked to vacate the seat.
