The Municipality of Tacuarembó wants to renovate the Iporá spa and turn it into a thermal complex, with the aim of changing to a tourism in the department that today is “one night”according to Mayor Wilson Ezquerra.
“We want to give it a projection and development that promotes a tourism of more timethe generation of employment for the population and foreign currency income. Given their conditions, we thought it was important develop some hot springs“, said Ezquerra in a conference consigned by a communiqué from the Intendancy.
The draft of the thermal complex, called “Iporá Thermal Spa Park”, was presented with a video that shows the result of the works in the spa, located north of the city of Tacuarembó. The recording shows new buildings, external and internal swimming pools, a water park, and different recreational spaces.
As reported by the mayor himself to El País, the project will cost $25 millionof which Tacuarembó will allocate US$ 10 million to strengthen tourism in the department.
“It is a water park with thermal features, but the project is more ambitious; includes different types of accommodation, services, entertainment and we have pondered the landscape and environmental qualityas well as the incorporation of state-of-the-art technology”, highlighted the architect Francisco Centurión, in statements present in the communiqué of the Administration.
Ezquerra clarified that the project, which covers some 500 hectares, “it will undoubtedly take a long time” and called not to “generate false expectations” because it is “very ambitious and a very big dream”.
