2023 Census: more than 100 thousand people completed the digital form

Just under three days after launch, more than 100 thousand people completed the digital form of the 2023 Census launched by the National Statistics Institute (INE) on Saturday, April 29 at 9:00 p.m.

This means that between Saturday at that time and Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. completed the survey of 7.8% of the “estimates made for occupied private homes,” reported the agency.

people will have deadline until May 17 to complete this first stage onlinewhich will then have a face-to-face phase in which the Census takers will visit the homes and scan the code that the form returns once they have been answered.

The president of the INE, Diego Aboal, described the response of the citizens as “very good” at a press conference. “The international reference is 10% throughout the (digital) census period, for example in countries like Mexico or Colombia (…) We will surely reach these countries“, considered the hierarch.

In the region, for example, the degree of participation found in the census in Argentina stands out (it reached 50% of the population).

whatHow long does it take to complete the digital form?? According to the INE data, the average response time was 30 minutes, although -according to The Observer– ten minutes may be enough to complete the online questionnaire, which is accessed through the page www.censo2023.uy.

The agency detected that the hours in which the population completes the form the most are between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., and between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. The majority answer the questions with their cell phones (80.2%), while 18.8% did so using “desktop technologies,” the INE said in a statement.

The 2023 Census by departments

In this initial survey, Aboal pointed out that there is a “very marked” difference in the level of responses that the digital census has already achieved in the southern and northern departments of the country.

“Departments with the highest rate of census takers are those from the south: Montevideo heads and is followed by Canelones, Maldonado, San José, Colonia and Flores,” commented the head of the INE.

Instead, the furthest behind in terms of responses are those from the north. “Artigas, Rivera, Cerro Largo, Treinta y Tres, Tacuarembó, Salto, are the six that come furthest back,” said Aboal.

INE recommendations

  • The National Institute of Statistics recalls that at this stage only the main dwelling is registered, because the “second or third” dwellings will be registered in the face-to-face phase
  • Foreigners living in Uruguay must also take a census
  • Divorced parents who share custody of their children must agree so that they are registered once only
  • If you have any questions, you can call 0800 2023 or from a cell phone at *2023. On the censo2023.uy website, where in addition to carrying out the census, you can also answer questions
