Specialists in Junín, consider from self-dissolution to vacancy as a measure to alleviate political crisis

The two crises that the country is facing today. The first: the economic one, which is shaping up to be the second deepest in Latin America (after Venezuela) and the second: the political one, which limits governability when the country needs it most. This has led to various , one of them presented by the head of the Judiciary, Elvia Barrios, who a few days ago asked President Pedro Castillo to convene “urgently” the Council of State. Others, on the other hand, contemplate figures such as resignation, vacancy or disqualification.

About what is the best way out of this crisis, our regional authorities, political scientists and representatives of business associations speak. The latter are among the most affected because the degree of reinvestment by micro and small businesses has fallen in the region.

Most have agreed that the best solution to this problem is for the Peruvian president to resign from office, but, like all members of Parliament, for not fully complying with his audit work.

A challenge that has to be taken up

The regional governor of Junín, Fernando Orihuela Rojas, sees this situation of political crisis as a challenge for regional governments and with management they can execute projects in favor of the regions.

“We continue to work harder, on the issue of the fight against the pandemic, the economic reactivation through the Junín program is reactivated with the restart of emblematic works in the nine provinces. Despite the crisis, we must continue working today more than ever (…) these are challenges that we have to take on as subnational governments, we have to continue working and generating consensus and building bridges,” said the regional president.

Powers must self-dissolve

The president of the Association of Municipalities of the Junín Region (AMREJ), Carlo Curisinche Eusebio, considers that the request for a Council of State made by the president of the Judiciary is a mistake and would not resolve the crisis, he also said that she must remain neutral on an eminently political issue. Likewise, he was in favor of the Executive and Legislative being self-dissolving. “This problem is resolved through dialogue and political agreement between the parties represented in Congress and the Executive. The other thing would be that, if there is inability of both powers, the president of Congress and the president agree to self-dissolve and call a new election, ”he said.

Castillo must take a step to the side

According to the president of the most important business association in the region, the National Industrial Society (SNI), Manuel Torres, President Pedro Castillo must step aside because the current situation is unsustainable any longer and is affecting the reinvestment for micro and small businesses in the region, which have been drastically reduced.

“All this is upside down, it worries too much, so far the Central Government is not responding, there is an inability of the government to get us out of this crisis, that is why the national president of the SNI, Ricardo Márquez, has already requested that Pedro Castillo of a step to the side”.

Consensus must be generated

The political scientist from Junin, Robert Villaba Fraga, considers that the political situation that the country is going through will not be resolved with a State Board, which he considers could be a palliative, but he does not believe that it will have an important repercussion to improve the crisis.

” Castillo needs to build political consensus with other sectors that allows him to have governability, but real consensus not with improvised, not with people who do not have any political representation (…) I think the weeks are numbered for President Pedro Castillo, You should try to make coalitions with the parties that are currently represented” .

The vacancy must be reassessed

For the political scientist, Raúl Cevallos, Castillo does not have a government plan that is not at all clear in the short or medium term, and that added to the fourth cabinet made up of improvised ministers that accentuate the country’s crisis, for which he points out that Congress should re-evaluate the presidential vacancy.

“That Council (of State) that they are proposing may have the best will, but as long as Castillo continues to show signs of a lack of government capacity, the people around him do not guarantee that either, the crisis will worsen in the coming weeks, here what has to happen following the democratic mechanisms, is that the Congress evaluates a vacancy again”. he said he.
