The Rural Association of Paraguay (ARP) expressed its concern about the acts of violence that have occurred in the last hours after the national elections.

“We cannot tolerate totalitarian attitudes that jeopardize the rule of law. Democracy is the way of coexistence that we choose, and instigated violent acts, like the ones we witnessed last night, are a setback in our social construction,” says the sector.
Through a statement, the ARP highlighted that international observers rated the electoral process positively, which shows its transparency and legitimacy. He added that it is important that any complaint that is filed follow a process within the legal framework, since only then is respect for the law and institutions guaranteed.
“We understand that people have every right to demonstrate, but we believe that violence should not be used to express disagreements and should not be incited, putting the public at risk. It is essential to guarantee the free movement and security of all Paraguayans, and law enforcement must work for it. At this time, it is important to focus on working together for the country that we need to develop, without letting the civic party turn into unfortunate acts of violence,” the union said.
Finally, the Rural Association of Paraguay promised to continue working for the development of the country and to collaborate in whatever is necessary to maintain social peace and respect for the institutions.
