MADRID, Spain.- This weekend thieves robbed the Church of San Charbel and Santo Tomás de Villanueva, located in the Miramar neighborhood, in the Playa municipality of Havana.
The complaint was made this Monday by Adrián Martínez Cádiz, press correspondent for the Catholic agency on EWTN Español.
As specified by Martínez Cádiz through Facebookthe robbers entered through a window and left through one of the side doors.
The thieves took horns, lamps, fans and the paschal candle. To access the lighting, they used a staircase that was inside the church, “and with all patience they removed the teipe ties from the lamps without cutting the cables,” said the reporter, who also shared images of how the electrical cables were left without the light bulbs. and the lamps.
Adrián Martínez pointed out that the area where the church is located is highly monitored with multiple government cameras, but “this was not intimidating for the thieves.”
According to the post, the police authorities went to the place and collected as evidence “forgotten items used to force the doors, a mask, and multiple fingerprint samples.”
However, the reporter indicates, “hopes among parishioners are not very high since they classify police work as inefficient and highlight the collapse of the authorities due to the growing wave of robberies and crime in the country.”
In comments to the post, Rael Rodríguez, who worked on the recent restoration of the church, noted that it had been “recovered from oblivion with an immense effort.”
“This should not go unpunished. Those of us who work there feel outraged by such a vandal act, ”she said.
For his part, Suilem Pulido García stated: “How sad! So much effort and dedication from all those who collaborated in the restoration of that church that was in ruins so that it was now assaulted”.
