The former senator from Colorado Pedro Bordaberry referred to the successes and errors of the current government administrationled by President Luis Lacalle Pou, and on the polarization that Uruguay is going through in his opinion column, which was published this Sunday in El País.
On this last point, Bordaberry expressed: “This is what seems to happen in our country, where we are witnessing a kind of ‘you are with me or against it.’ With the government or against it. With such a football club or against it. Grays are not allowed”.
“Today if one criticizes the position of a party that demands changes going back on their word and asks that they not be voted on, they are against the coalition, the government and it is irresponsible,” insisted the former Colorado senator., who has pointed out discrepancies with the decisions of Lacalle Pou. One of them was in mid-April, when Bordaberry pointed out that the Colorado Party should not vote on the pension reform after the changes promoted by Cabildo Abierto, which were accepted by the president.
Along these lines, the former senator focused on the auction of 5G bands. “Today a process is carried out in which only two companies that will each bid for a band are classified, that is, each one will buy one and there will be no bid. He will have little as an auction ”, he pointed out.
The former leader of the red group Vamos Uruguay said that, when the Broad Front was the ruling party, several “similar warnings” were made and recalled the Pluna auction, the management in Ancap, the “wrong process” carried out by Gas Sayago and the cost of Antel Arena.
“Indicating discrepancies does not mean being against someone (a government or a ruler). It means being loyal to yourself, but above all to the person who is governing,” he said in this regard, and also pointed out the “successes” of the current government, such as the management of the pandemic and the “seriousness” of fiscal policies.
In any case, about the discrepancies, Bordaberry summarized: “Telling the King, like Andersen’s story, that he wears the best clothes when in reality he is naked, is not helping him but harming him.”
“But no one does everything right or everything wrong,” he concluded.
