OnCubaNews

The 30th edition of the Romerías de Mayo will pay homage to the poet and essayist fine garcia marruzabout the centenary of his birth.

The event, which will be held between May 2 and 8 in Holguín, will remember the writer, National Literature Award in 1990 and who died in Havana last year, in her literary space “Palabras Compartidas”, as reported the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

Liset Prego, coordinator of this space, told the outlet that the tribute to Fina will have as its center the presentation of the notebook I want to write with the living silence.

It is a bilingual work, in French and Spanish, with a translation by Rebeca Torres Serrano, published in the Analekta collection by the Ediciones La Luz label, of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) in Holguín.

The notebook also has an “enriched version” in audiobook format, with poems by García Marruz in the voice of his grandson José Adrián Vitier, adds the news office.

Prego highlighted that José Adrián “as an ontogenic heritage has inherited the cadence, rhythm and tone of Fina when reading her texts.” In addition, he highlighted “the design made by Robert Ráez is based on a piece by the plastic artist Silvia Rodríguez Rivero, daughter-in-law of the Havana writer.”

Jubilee for the centenary of Fina García-Marruz

The audiobook was published in the Quemapalabras collection of Ediciones La Luz and includes four texts by Fina in the voice of young Holguin writers Ana G. Ramos, Lely Carrasco, Idania De La Caridad Salazar and Liset Prego herself.

For his part, José Hernández, artistically known as DJ Acid Seduction, participated with the musicalization of the poems with electronic sounds.

In Prego’s opinion, this “adds current notes from the reading of young authors and electronic music”, as well as the recontextualization of a poetics that aims to “tell the wonder”.

Precisely the verse “We want to tell the wonder” serves as a slogan for the space “Shared Words” in this edition of the Pilgrimages. Young people from various provinces of the country, winners of the 2022 Calendar Award and representatives of AHS publishers will participate in it, the report refers.

Considered one of the main figures of Cuban literature in the 20th century, Fina García Marruz received awards such as the Pablo Neruda (2007), the Reina Sofía for Ibero-American Poetry (2011) and the Federico García Lorca (2011). The centenary of her birth was commemorated on April 28.
