But not just any toy, not of that mechanical or wind-up type that already smells and sounds old, but one of that “next generation” that, in the current circumstances (when, in the midst of despair, the dictatorship is better ” to film” from “inclusive”, “open”), show better performance due to that “ambiguity” that makes them appear “outside the system”, but at the same time inside it, sending, urbi et orbithe message that the regime precisely needs: “Everything that is said bad about us is a lie.”
That it is a newly acquired toy is demonstrated by the fact that, having barely arrived in Havana, the regime’s most important official tourism pages used the news to promote Cuba as a destination, as if they did not harbor any type of fear that Ana, endowed with certain “autonomy”, made them look bad with annoying statements and “indiscipline” similar to those of his brother, the photographer Javier Casowho in 2020 was interrogated by State Security because of his links with the photographer Miguel Coyula and the actress Lynn Cruz.
Likewise, as would have been normal in a regime so cautious and calculatingly “enthusiastic” with the “gone” Cubans, the most notable spokesmen did not take long to celebrate the visit (with a lot of hypocrisy and ridiculous phrases), as if they were very clear that later they would not have to bite their tongues if the rising star were to explode in their faces demanding freedom or requesting to visit a political prisoner.
They praised her on social networks because, without a doubt, they were very sure that the worst would not happen, and for that reason alone, they saved, for now, the backstabbing that they throw at anyone who makes a fool of them or puts them in their place.
Ana de Armas has been celebrated because in her “discreet” way she has celebrated them anyway, because otherwise that article would have already appeared in the official press where they would remind the girl that she is an ungrateful graduate of the system’s artistic education, that this did not happen casting or that one, the subjects he failed, the medical attention he received and even the CDR guards he did, and so who knows to what point they would have gone with such baseness just because the toy “has misbehaved.”
Ana has behaved as expected and her itinerary has been almost the same as Beyoncé’s (in her role as a hook for tourism). Otherwise, her vacations in Cuba, for the official press, would have passed as ignored as her last ones, in which she was accompanied by Ben Affleck.
On those occasions, no one said anything, no one openly linked to the regime took a selfie, no one asked her for an interview, and she did not have to apologize for “being on vacation.” She hadn’t been nominated for an Oscar, she still didn’t have enough spotlight on her, but neither was anyone in the regime entirely sure if Anita would end up becoming another Javier Caso to scold. So, once the doubts have been clarified and in need of this type of promotion, Ana de Arma, as a Hollywood star, has fallen from the sky on a plane, especially now that neither Beyoncé, nor the Madonna nor the Kardashians.
But it is that none of them would send the message of “we are happy here” that the regime now wants to send to the world with its “affection” and “pampering” for Ana de Armas, and it is that this new generation of toys even surpasses in ” useful virtues” to that other, now discarded, that flourished the day before and during the Obama thaw.
I am referring to that batch of artists, independent journalists, press media and even dissidents of the “new type”, that “loyal opposition” that, having denied the repression in the beginning, having looked with disgust at exile and the internal “counterrevolution” , ended up crushed by that same force of the ruling party that created them in the shadows to pretend, at the negotiating tables with the “enemy”, in favor of changes that never came, that they were never willing to make.
Today those useful idiots from just yesterday afternoon have not only had to go into exile in Miami or Europe, but have become the target of their own creators, as they are creatures that they disown, as annoying as any old toy that no longer serves them as a room decoration.
Ana de Arma today is the new prototype. That “new woman”, that “new man” that the regime needs to impose and generalize as a model, as long as she has the ability to find a false “balance” between emigrating or going into exile because she does not have opportunities to get ahead in her native country and beyond. late to return having forgotten the sorrows, their true origins, and even forgiving whoever caused them. That yes, to return of brief form, disciplined and with money in the pockets, because of another way is not possible.
