Cuban family “loses everything” in fire caused by Motorina

MADRID, Spain.- A Cuban family residing in Alamar lost their belongings due to a fire that occurred in Alamar this Sunday. The fire broke out by a motorcycle that was inside the building.

The fact was disclosed to the journalist Alberto Arego by David Jiménez, a citizen very close to the family.

“Put it (the news) so that you raise awareness, please,” Jiménez told Arego, who also sent images of the incident.

“This happened to a close friend of mine in the Alamar area, yesterday at 6:00 am. Put it so that people do not leave them (electric motorcycles) inside the house. They are a ticking time bomb,” Jiménez said.

He also stated: “He lost everything. Thank God all his family is fine, they managed to get out. Once again this tragedy occurs, only now it was practically my family. Luckily no lives were lost because they had time to run out of the house. They lost everything.”

David Jiménez asked his acquaintances to unite to help the victims of the fire.

The motorinas have become one of the most used means of transport in recent years in Cuba. The shortage of fuel and the deterioration of public transport services have forced many Cubans to resort to this type of vehicle. But its improper use makes this type of fire frequent.

In June 2022, the explosion of a motorcycle in a state parking lot near the Calzada de Diez de Octubre caused the total destruction of 12 motorcycles and caused damage to two light cars.

In March That year, another five electric motorcycles caught fire in a parking lot of the Camagüey provincial government and one more in the central Avenida Monte, border between the municipalities of Centro Habana and La Habana Vieja, in the capital of Cuba.

From January to October 2022, at least 30 electric motorcycles caught fire in the province of Pinar del Río. Of these fires, 17 occurred in homes, with different degrees of damage, according to official data.

To prevent fires, specialists in these vehicles consulted by CubaNet They have recommended doing a complete charge and discharge cycle every one or two months; avoid removing the Battery Management System (BMS); use only chargers specified by manufacturers; as well as not leaving the motorcycle connected for long periods once it has reached 100% of the charge.

Just as they indicate not to expose the battery to high temperatures and always protect the vehicle when it is parked.
