ETECSA’s Vice President of Network Operations, Lidia Esther Hidalgo, reported that these actions have facilitated an initial level of traffic growth for the corresponding adjustments.
In accordance with a report from the official site cubadebatethis has allowed an increase in total traffic by 17%, with the mobile service representing 83% of this value.
It also meant that outside of peak hours an increase in transfer speed is perceived in areas where work is being done to increase access capacity, without detailing these areas.
Hidalgo highlighted that the competition determines the perceived quality, for which actions are carried out, although the transfer speed values expected by customers have not yet been reached.
Mobile telephony in Cuba
The number of users who use mobile phone services has grown in recent years in Cuba, and has become an attractive source of divisive income for the island’s economy, through prepaid recharges contracted from abroad. .
However, this increase has been accompanied by constant complaints about the quality of the service, which has been affected, among other factors, by the lack of investment in the infrastructure necessary to support the high demand, according to the Cuban authorities in the sector.
In this regard, the vice president of Network Operations of ETECSA said that during these months maintenance work has been carried out aimed at reducing problems with Internet browsing.
Among the main actions that were undertaken, he added, is the replacement of new equipment with greater processing capacities in order to increase the number of clients connected at the same time to the mobile network.
Regarding the Arimao Project, it is a system deployed by the French company Orange, through its subsidiary Orange Marine, which connects the Caribbean island of Martinique with the Cuban province of Cienfuegos.
