In September 2022, the world-renowned sports store confirmed its landing at Punta Carretas Shopping, but they plan more in other parts of the country

In October Decathlon will open the doors of its premises in Punta Carretas. The store that will require an investment of more than US$3 million will be the firm’s first in Montevideo and will have some peculiarities. in dialogue with Coffee & Business the commercial manager of the firm, Magela Méndez, confirmed that the 1,600 m2 premises will be innovative since it will use, for example, stained glass windows and wood, materials that are not usually present in their premises; It will also have a double entrance, one through the mall and the other directly from the street.
But this first Decathlon store in Montevideo is not the only cross that the brand company has drawn on the map of Uruguay. “We plan to open five new stores in the short term,” said Méndez.. Another of those that has already been confirmed is the one that will open inside the retail park in District 52, as advanced to El Observador Omar Daneri, CEO of Car One.
The other three venues do not have a specific geographical location, but it was defined that one will take place in the capital and the other two in the interior of the country. Consulted on purpose, Méndez stressed that they intend to cover different types of public, so the second store in the capital will not be close to Punta Carretas Shopping. They have not yet decided which interior departments will receive the brand between now and 2026.
As Méndez explained in conversation with Coffee & Business the company plans to make a total investment of US$ 18 million.
From Car One to the whole country
The French sports store Decathlon began its operations in Uruguay in November 2021 with the opening of its first store located in the Car One shopping center in Canelones. The premises that started with 1,600 m2 today have more than 3,000 m2.
In April, this Decathlon store was the one with the highest sales in all of Latin America (it also operates in Colombia, Chile and Brazil).
