This year the message of International Dance Day has been entrusted to the Chinese dancer and choreographer yang liping (1958) who rose to fame for choreographing and performing “The Spirit of the Peacock” in 1986.
For Liping “dance is the same as life and nature: it is its true essence.” In her message, reported by various international press outlets, the Chinese choreographer defines herself as “an observer of life”, therefore, her creative inspiration “comes from life and nature”.
“I invite all the dancers in the world who love dance and who express their emotions through it to dance together to convey our love and praise to heaven and earth,” says the most famous dancer in China who has brought her choreographies to other latitudes, becoming a cultural ambassador of the most remote parts of her country and its folklore.
Dance as an expression of communication
As a tribute to the date in several countries around the world, open days and guided tours are prepared every April 29 in many entities and institutions.
Dance is an ancestral, mythical manifestation of homage to the Gods, of prayer to awaken the forces of nature for the survival of man. It is a language that can express all feelings: from the deepest pain to the most overflowing joy.
In Cuba, the Contemporary Dance Company presents a season of premieres at the National Theater with the staging of the piece “Polvo, palabras, sombras, nada” by George Céspedes, which proposes a metaphor on communication and other human relations, on scores by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns.
Today the 13th edition of the dance party (Fidanz) dedicated to female voices in folk songs, artistic education and pays tribute to the singer and dancer Bertha Armiñán.
