Mexico City, Mexico-. In May, the chicken that is regularly sold as part of the basic basket will only be distributed to adolescents under 14 years of age. This was reported by Francisco Silva Herrera, General Director of Merchandise Sales of the Ministry of Domestic Trade (Mincin).

Silva specified that chicken for children up to 13 years of age and medical diets is in distribution. On the other hand, for consumers over 14 years of age, meat products are distributed, such as mincemeat and mortadella.
With barely a day and a half to go until the end of the month, several basic necessities such as oil, beans, and peas are just beginning to be distributed. Official information indicates that it is a consequence of the current fuel crisis “that is hitting the Cuban economy and population.”
The note also admits that some food, corresponding to April, may not be distributed this month.
For example, April coffee cannot be delivered, since “it is in production by the industry and it is expected to conclude in the first days of May.”
“At the moment, the completion of the regulated family basket for April is in the distribution process, in those territories where the delivery of beans and peas is still pending; as well as oil,” said the manager, according to a note posted on the ministry website.
Unfortunately this is a recurring situation on the island. In March, Silva Herrera acknowledged the existence of delays in the rationed sale of the food that makes up the basic basket. Among the affected products, he mentioned compote for children, coffee, beans, peas, rice, oil, sugar and chicken.
Also at the end of February, most of the products in the regulated family basket, including rice, beans, sugar and oil, are seeing their distribution affected, reported the Ministry of Domestic Trade (MINCIN).
