He secretary of the Presidency, Alvaro Delgado, referred to the economic situation in Salto —department with rate of highest unemployment in the countryand pointed at him Frente Amplio mayor Andrés Lima understanding that it does not facilitate foreign investment.
Delgado visited Salto to inaugurate a polyclinic of the State Health Services Administration (ASSE) together with Leonardo Cipriani and also to meet with representatives of the Salto Shopping Center.
In a press conference recorded by the Presidency portal, Delgado was asked about the economic situation that the department is going through and also about the high unemployment rates, since according to the latest data from the National Statistics Institute (INE), Salto has the highest unemployment rate, reaching 14.2%.
“In Paysandú unemployment is around 10%, in Soriano and Fray Bayentos as well. Here there are other conditions and that is what worries me“, affirmed the secretary of the Presidency. And then he referred to the investments: “The national government has to press the accelerator on investment in Salto.”
“Which we are missing in Salto is the investment facilitation attitude. And beyond border policy. With Nicolás Olivera (of the National Party) we have permanent contact… The installation of hotels and other investments are being announced,” he said.
And he added: “We have to have something that is absolutely important, which is that the departmental administration is an investment facilitator. That it be friendly with the foreign investor and that, once again, we leave ideology in a drawer”.
Regarding the mayor of Artigas, Pablo Caram (also from the National Party), Delgado highlighted the proactivity of the hierarch to obtain investments.
“We have seen the will to get investment all the time, the proactive attitude of mayors who are dedicated to being mayors. To be in their department, to knock on all the doors to attract investment… Until now of all the mayors, perhaps We have not had such insistence from the mayor of Salto“, he affirmed and said that there are “some projects” on which the commune has not yet given an answer.
Lima, leader of the Broad Front Artiguista Federal Meeting sector, announced at the end of 2022 its intention to be presidential candidate for his political strength to synthesize an “expression of the interior” in the offer for the inmates.
The Secretary of the Presidency avoided referring to new economic compensation measures for the border and listed those that the government has already applied. “We are evaluating some others. None of the ones that are taken, even though they are all done together, to the situation today… None of them changes the situation too much,” Delgado acknowledged.
