President of Fide visits Cuba

The president of the International Chess Federation (Fide, for its acronym in French), Arkady Dvorkovich, arrived in Cuba today with the aim of verifying the development of the science game on the island.

In front of the governing body since 2018, the Russian Dvorkovich will exchange in Havana with sports directors and will visit places of interest with the purpose of knowing the initiation of young children in the practice of chess and teaching in elderly adults.

According to the digital site JIT, the highest authority of Fide is accompanied by the Latvian and vice president of the institution, Dana Reizniece-Ozola, and the Moldovan Viktor Bologan, executive director.

The Fide delegation will visit a Home for the Elderly tomorrow, the Specialized Classroom of the Center for Chess Studies (Island), and will exchange with the president of the Cuban Institute of Sports (Inder), Osvaldo Vento, and the head of the Olympic Committee, Robert Leon Richards.

Upon arrival at the José Martí international airport, the officials were received by the director of International Relations of Inder, Gisleidis Sosa, and the president of the Cuban Federation of the discipline, Carlos Rivero.

After concluding the two-day stay in the Antillean capital, Dvorkovich and other Fide visitors will travel to Mexico to participate in the Ibero-American Chess Championship, scheduled for the 12th to the 19th of this month.

In the contest with a stage in the Adolfo López hall of the Los Pinos Cultural Complex, Cuba will present eight chess players led by the national monarch Carlos Daniel Albornoz, second in the last edition of 2019.
