Campaign seeks to increase citizen participation in general elections

In the last general elections of 2018, the level of electoral participation reached a little more than 60% at the national level, in which 2,604,547 Paraguayans, of the 4,241,507 authorized to vote, went to the polling places. For this occasion, the goal is for the numbers to increase.

The organization Acción Paraguay launched the campaign “Take Action, Vote Paraguay!” with a view to the general elections of April 30, 2023seeking -through actions both in social networks and on the street-, to increase the level of citizen participation with the vote, and above all the responsibility of the voter in going to the voting centers with information.

The executive director of Acción Paraguay, Rodrigo Medina, commented that, as a strategy, the campaign aims to accompany citizens who have already voted and understand the importance of suffrage, recognizing them as Democratic Ambassadors.

“The democratic ambassadors who join our campaigns will work from their social networks to share and disseminate our Acción Paraguay materials that highlight the importance of citizen participation this April 30, and everything that is at stake for the next five years. The campaign is largely focused on youth, which is the age group that participates the least, but does not leave other sectors of society aside, ”he said.

As data, he highlighted that, to focus the campaign, the latest participation statistics were analyzed and the behavior of the different age groups was seen, Therefore, he affirmed the importance of being present from the point of view of institutional co-responsibility in this new democratic process that must involve all Paraguayans.

Acción Paraguay is a social platform that has been working since 2016 on various social initiatives, seeking to make ideas come true and above all that each action has a positive effect.

Medina indicated that it is not the first time that the organization has worked on elections, since in 2018 a national team was formed that monitored behavior on D-Day, as well as data on the needs of the population, among others.
