The municipal plan for approaching pipes in Maturín, Monagas state, presents delays in the middle of the start of the rainy season, after the electricity and transportation services in different areas have been affected. From a first approach of 18 channels distributed throughout the city, until April 26, only six have completed manual cleaning.

The pipe sanitation program managed by the mayoress of the Maturín municipality, Ana Fuentes, is still in the first phase, which includes the manual cleaning of 18 channels in the entity and work on the drainage that flows into the Universidad de Los Goths. The Los Guaros, Orinoco, Las Brisas (in Las Gladiolas), La Ceiba and Libertador avenue pipes have also been cleaned.

In total, in Maturín there are 60 pipes and canals that must be attended to.

In the Boquerón parish, with the participation of Civil Protection and Disaster Administration (PCAD) officials, risk spaces were inspected in the six axes of this territory, as it is the largest within the city.

Lennys Rodríguez, director of Maturin Civil Protection, explained that 12 officials made the approach with the support of the community chiefs. “On Friday, inspections were carried out in the sectors: Brisas de Oriente, Guayabal, San Luis, El Chispero, Viboral and Santa Elena de Viboral, corresponding to axes 1, 5 and 6.” The work was completed on Saturday the 22nd in the other three axes.

Rodríguez reported that special emphasis was placed on the communities near the Guarapiche, Aragua and Las Piñas rivers, whose banks remain unaffected. “The morichales and pipes will also be inspected over the next few days with the support of the neighbors,” he said.

However, in the morning hours of Tuesday the 25th, the entrance to the Godofredo González urbanization, located on the main street of Boquerón, was flooded due to the lack of maintenance in the drains and prevented vehicular traffic, after heavy rains during the dawn.
