The Critics Circle United Kingdom included this Wednesday the company Acosta Dance and the dancer Zeleidy Crespo among the nominees for the 2022 National Dance Awards, an award that recognizes the best of this artistic manifestation in that nation.
The Dance section of this guild selected the group directed by the dancer and choreographer Carlos Acosta to opt for the award in the category of Best Medium Format Dance Company, according to a dispatch from the Prensa Latina (PL) agency.

Zeleidy Crespo, the company’s leading figure, was among the candidates in the Excellent Female Performance in Modern Dance section, for her participation in the show 100% Cubanintroduced in the UK in early 2022.
The award recognizes the work of Cuban artists for their constant participation in the British scene. In addition, it makes Acosta Danza one of the main ambassadors of Cuban culture on the international scene, the outlet considers.
For the second time, the group was among the most outstanding that have performed on those stages. In the 21st edition of the prestigious Acosta Danza award, it was known as the best independent company, recalls the publication.
To select the winner in the new category, the jury analyzes the proposals of the groups that maintain a stable and permanent job in that nation, and that do not belong to the circle of companies subsidized by the state, the government or any British governmental institution.
PL points out that for the classification, the shows and performances included in the period between January 1 and December 31, 2022 were taken into account.
The winners of the awards in the different categories will be announced on June 5, in a live ceremony at The Coronet Theatre, in London.
These awards are organized by the Dance Section of the Círculo de Críticos, which each year distinguish the vigor and variety of the prosperous dance culture in that country, as well as being the only laurels awarded by this union of dance professionals in the United Kingdom.
For seven years, Acosta Danza has been recognized as one of the best Cuban groups.
The company stands out for the intensity of its members on the scene, the permanent desire to renew themselves and remain open to new ideas, proposals.
In turn, he has opted to combine folk dance with contemporary dance, and include in his proposals songs from the traditional Latin American songbook in the voice of Chavela Vargas, Vinicius de Moraes or Joaquín Sabina.
Acosta Danza also hosts the training of young dance and ballet students from different Cuban provinces.
