The Ministry of the Environment (MiAmbiente) will establish new entrance fees to the country’s protected areas. The new prices will take effect on March 1, 2022.
The national director of protected areas and biodiversity of Mi Ambiente, Shirley Blinder, justified the measure arguing that this allows the handling, management and conservation of resources, and contributes positively to the economic reactivation of the country.
The entity’s Environmental Policy Directorate, according to a statement, was in charge of determining the cost of entry to these places, explaining that due to the increase in the administrative and maintenance cost of the areas, it was important to increase the entrance price. All this is part of Resolution No. DM-0182-2020, which regulates the entrance fees to these centers of natural biodiversity.
For nationals and foreign residents, the entrance to the National Parks: Soberanía, Volcán Barú, La Amistad, Darién Chagres, Altos de Campana and others, will cost $4.00. While for retirees and pensioners the cost will be $2.00. The costs previously were $3.00 and $1.50 respectively. Children under 12 years of age will not pay admission.
In the case of foreigners, the price rose from $5 to $7, although children under 12 years of age will not pay admission.
In relation to the marine areas, the Isla Bastimento Marine National Park and the Isla Iguana Wildlife Refuge will have a fee of $6 for nationals and foreign residents. Retirees, pensioners and the elderly must pay $3. And for foreigners the price remains at $20.
