The high representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said Tuesday in Bogotá that the “democratic normalization process” in Venezuela must be accompanied by a “gradual lifting of (economic) sanctions )”.
Borrell made the statements to the media before entering the International Conference on the Political Process in Venezuela that was held this Tuesday in Bogotá and was convened by Colombian President Gustavo Petro.
“It is evident that a process of democratic normalization has to be accompanied by a gradual lifting of actions, everything consists of knowing when and how,” he said.
Borrell referred to the economic sanctions that affect Venezuelans and assured that “the European Union has not taken any economic sanction that affects the living conditions of Venezuelans,” disdaining the personal sanctions that have been imposed on different government figures. .
He also did not mention that the Novo Banco de Portugal has frozen more than 1,000 million dollars, which was denounced before the UN by President Nicolás Maduro last year.
“We are going to see how we can together, and in particular the Latin American countries, which are the ones that have the most interest and are closest to the problem, in promoting the return to the democratic path of Venezuela from the base of the agreements between the Venezuelans,” he said.
