After the mayor of La Paz, Iván Arias, pointed to the growth of citizen insecurity in the municipality and accused the Ministry of Government of ignoring requests for cooperation, the authorities of said State portfolio went to the intersection and accused the mayor of ” miss the truth.”
“Each and every one of the letters that Mr. Arias has presented to the Ministry of Government have been sent to the corresponding authority, which is the Vice Ministry of Citizen Security. Almost all of them, except the last one that was presented on Friday, have been answered within the appropriate timeframes,” said the Minister of the Government, Eduardo del Castillo, yesterday.
“The work of the Police has been efficient during the 2021 administration and crimes have been reduced by about 27% in the municipality of La Paz. We are working in a coordinated and efficient manner with the different State institutions and, basically, if the mayor wants to pose for a photograph instead of doing his job, the doors of the Ministry of Government will also be open,” he added.

For his part, the Vice Minister of Citizen Security, Roberto Ríos, assured that since 2021 they have worked in coordination with municipal officials.
“Mayor Arias is not telling the truth, because we have coordinated since last year. Officials from the mayor’s office were part of our Tenth Citizen Security Summit and we have also participated in the Municipal Citizen Security Conference, in which two officials made presentations “, he said in a statement from the Ministry of Government.

“It is important to highlight that in the municipality there is a case resolution rate of 93% by our Bolivian Police. These results are largely due to the implementation of Bol110, the different plans and operations that are constantly carried out in the city,” he added.
Last Saturday, Arias went to social networks to explain that the municipal government “does not supply” and to denounce that Del Castillo’s silence to four letters in which he requests coordination “sounds like contempt for La Paz.” Following these responses, the mayor of La Paz once again reiterated his request for a hearing “without photographs.”
“Minister Eduardo del Castillo, if it’s about photos, you take the flower. The important thing is the lives that we must take care of. Prevention and frontal fight against crime are the tasks that urgently need to be coordinated. Let’s meet, without photographs, to begin to solve these problems,” he posted on Tuesday.
