The Secretary of the Presidency of the Republic, Alvaro Delgadoinsists that the explanation of the Gustavo Leal case continues “without closing”, an attempt at a legal process carried out by the prosecutor Gabriela Fossati against the former Frente Amplista government official for visit to the parents of Alejandro Astesiano in Brazil.
“There was a situation that surprised everyone. We were all surprised and continue to surprise. The explanation ends up not shutting down anyone”, said the chief in a quick press conference in the last few hours.
And he added: “But well, it may not be a crime, that is something else. It still doesn’t close for me (…) The acting prosecutor closed the case because she did not find a crime, for me the explanation still does not exist ”.
The dismissal of the case against Gustavo Leal
The 16th Turn Flagrancia prosecutor, Sabrina Flores, has decided to close the case against Gustavo Leal after not finding evidence of criminal behavior or appearance thereof. In this way, the former head of the Ministry of the Interior and Frente Amplio leader is released from any accusation in this case.
It should be remembered that Leal had been investigated for visiting the father of Alejandro Astesiano, former head of custody of Luis Lacalle Pou. Astesiano, for his part, is serving a sentence for leading a network of forgery of passports that were sold from the Executive Tower, in the heart of the government center, to Russian citizens in irregular conditions.
Initially, the Astesiano case had been led by the prosecutor Gabriela Fossati, who summoned Leal as a witness but finally passed him to the category of investigated. However, he was never specifically informed of what he would be accused of.
