MIAMI, United States. – The Arpillera Room of the Palacio de la Merced, headquarters of the Diputación de Córdoba, in Spain, hosts from this April 21 until next Friday the 28th the photographic exhibition “Guajiro. Soul of Cuba” by the artist Emilio Olivares, reported Europa Press agency.

In his work, Olivares captures the spirit of Cuba through portraits of men and women who have been shaped by the sun in rural settings.

The main purpose of this exhibition, according to local media in Córdoba, is to show the close connection that exists between the landscape and the guajiro or Cuban farmer.

Olivares’s photographs offer his viewers a vivid testimony of the daily life of the guajiros, who are in charge of cultivating and harvesting sugar cane and tobacco leaves in Cuba.

Likewise, Olivares’ images stand out for their eloquence and ability to give visibility to the people who work tirelessly in the island’s fields, often under difficult conditions.

In addition, the exhibition “Guajiro. Alma de Cuba” highlights the relevance of the rural environment in the construction of the Cuban national identity and its contribution to the cultural development of the country. The sample also shows the influence of these workers in traditional music, being the indisputable basis of rhythms related to Cuban society.
