Prosecutor confirms suicide of Luis Azuaje after study of his autopsy

The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, offered detailed information on the death of citizen Jesús Azuaje, who would have taken his own life in custody of the Venezuelan State.

The head of the Public Prosecutor’s Office reported that the deceased today would have committed suicide by mechanical suffocation due to neck constriction, which resulted in hanging. The same would have been committed after the prisoner used sheets from the cell in which he was being held, as determined by the Criminal Unit of the Public Ministry.

Several letters addressed to his family were found at the scene, in which he explained his determination to take his own life and apologized in advance for what he called an “error.”

The Attorney General also reported that officials from the Public Ministry interviewed the psychological doctor who was treating the deceased today, who confirmed that he himself was a patient with disorders and that he suffered from anxiety attacks.

They also had the testimony of his cellmate, who confirmed that Azuaje took his own life through the aforementioned methods.

Finally, prosecutor Tarek William Saab said that the deceased’s cell phone contained messages from the WhatsApp application, in which he realized the unfortunate psychological state he was suffering from.
