The Mexican Donovan Carrillo qualified for the final of Individual Figure Skating, within the framework of the Winter Olympic Games, Beijing 2022, with which he becomes the first Latin American athlete to move to this level of competition in history.
Carrillo amazed all of Mexico by qualifying for the final this Monday night, where he made his debut to the rhythm of “Black Magic Woman”, achieving a score of 79.69 to sneak into the final of the competition, where he now dreams of a medal.
Upon hearing the qualification in his debut, Carrillo said that “one of the goals for this competition was to seek qualification for this free program.”
“Keeping in mind that we are competing with the best skaters from all over the world, we knew that it was not going to be easy, that’s why my reaction of joy and happiness, I could not contain myself and I jumped for joy,” he said.
Born in the state of Jalisco, in western Mexico, the 23-year-old Carrillo has competed in several international championships in his modality.
Donovan Carrillo faced 29 skaters and managed to place himself in 19th place to be able to go to the free program that will be held on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. (CDMX hours) where he competes for medals.
