Mothers of April Association: "Ortega tries to erase and deny the acts of violence of April 2018"

The Mothers of April Association (AMA) commemorated this Wednesday, April 19, five years of demand for justice for the dozens of murdered in the social protests of 2018, and whose crimes were carried out by the regime of Daniel Ortega Rosario Murillo.

At the same time, he denounced that the Ortega administration tries to erase from the memory of Nicaraguans the attacks and violations of human rights during the civic rebellion.

“In its attempt to erase the collective memory and deny the acts of violence of April 2018, the Ortega-Murillo regime, through the National Assembly, has decreed April 19 as ”National Day of Peace”, —for which— as relatives of the victims of the State of Nicaragua, we reject this action that perpetuates the environment of impunity and oblivion,” said AMA.

He also stressed that after “five years of collective mourning, in which we reaffirm that only with unrestricted respect for human rights, with the truth built collectively and with access to impartial justice, the foundations of social peace are built.”

They also reaffirmed that as an organization of victims they continue with the commitment to continue demanding justice so that “the new generations can live in a healthy country, with real peace.”

They also stated that their wish is that “never again will a State shoot against our youth, peasants, citizens; against the people for the mere fact of thinking differently».

«April is not forgotten or erased from our memory; April is an open wound for Nicaragua that reminds us of a brave people thirsty for change where we all have the same opportunities and freedoms,” the members of the organization stressed.

Regarding the peace announced by the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega, the Mothers of April Association affirmed that there will be true peace until the rights to Justice, Truth, and effective reparation are respected. «Right that assists us as victims of human rights violations by the State of Nicaragua».
