Insecurity, a critical issue for merchants in Bogotá

According to the study, among the most stolen items, the cell phone ranks first, followed by money, business products and jewelry.

Juan Esteban Orrego, director of Fenalco Bogotá – Cundinamarcaassured that in the face of this panorama, “We have a proposal as a Guild and it is to strengthen the joint work between the Army and the Police, since this synergy helps to dispel vandals and improves the perception of security”.

He added that “This is not the first time we have asked for it, in January 2021 when we faced a critical situation due to the strikes, we suggested this patrol to the Mayor, a request that she very kindly accepted and patrols were carried out with the Military Police, which helped a lot . Well, although we know that they work together, we request that this work be increased, and 82.4% of the businessmen surveyed consider that it would be a great measure”.

The survey asked the merchants to leave their proposals to improve security and the need to improve the judicial system to have stricter penalties for criminals is recurring. We will submit these comments to the authorities.

Orrego insisted on the importance of reporting any robbery or violent act, since it is the mechanism for the National Police to act, although 54% of robbery victims reported, this figure should be higher.
