President Maduro receives the Russian Foreign Minister in Miraflores

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, holds a meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Sergei Lavrov.

The national President said in his official account on the social network Twitter that this meeting “strengthens bilateral relations and the map of joint cooperation in various areas of the development of our nations.”

The purpose of the meeting that took place in Office 1 of the Miraflores Palace, located in Caracas, is to strengthen the ties of cooperation between both nations.

In this regard, the Venezuelan Head of State reported on Monday that the Russian diplomat arrived in Venezuela “to review all the issues of Russia-Venezuela cooperation, the presence of Russia in Latin America and the Caribbean for the good of our region, of world geopolitics”, he announced during the premiere of his weekly program With Maduro +broadcast by the state channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).

Lavrov’s arrival in Venezuela is part of the Latin American tour that began this Monday in Brazil and will include Nicaragua and Cuba.

On the Russian side, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Ryabkov, the director of the Foreign Policy Forecast Department, Aleksei Drobinin and the director of the Department of Latin America, Aleksandr Schetinin.

For its part, the Venezuelan delegation is made up of the Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, the People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations, Yván Gil, the Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the Russian Federation, Jesús Salazar Velásquez and the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs for Europe, Franklin Ramírez.

Venezuela and Russia deepen strategic alliances

The Minister for Foreign Relations, Yván Gil, and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrovheld a meeting on Tuesday where they analyzed the strategic alliances that are maintained between both nations.

The Venezuelan foreign minister stressed to the media that strategic relations will continue to be strengthened in different matters, the energy issue being the main axis, he said after the meeting made in the Yellow House, Caracas.

“We are going to continue working to strengthen these relations between two strategic partners such as the Russian Federation and Venezuela,” he stressed.

In the same way, he said that cooperation agreements in agriculture were reviewed – where there will be great advances in import and export issues, transportation, air and maritime interconnection, military; among other points for the construction of a multipolar world.

In this sense, he highlighted the work carried out by Venezuela and Russia to “agree on and coordinate the position” of both nations in the different multilateral forums in which they meet.

Among these forums – he stressed – “the defense of the principles of self-determination, sovereignty and world peace”.

“Russia and Venezuela share all the principles of the United Nations charter,” added the Venezuelan diplomat.

In context

On February 16, 2022, an agreement of intent was signed between the Venezuela-Russia High Level Intergovernmental Commission (CIAN) to deepen the strategic alliance of comprehensive cooperation between both countries.

On that occasion, both countries held the XVI High-Level Intergovernmental Commission and signed new agreements, reaching the figure of more than 320 instruments signed in the broadest areas of strategic cooperation, among which are commercial, technical-military, energy, agriculture, food, transportation, science, technology and public health

Likewise, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, highlighted the importance of strategic cooperation between the two countries, through a letter published by the Twitter social network account of the Russian Foreign Ministry @mae_rusia, on December 31, 2022.

The Russian President also expressed his confidence that “the consolidation of Russian-Venezuelan relations” guarantee regional stability and security and ratified the importance of bilateral relations.

“Cooperation in various areas, including the fight against the spread of COVID-19,” the statement quoted.

In this sense, Putin stressed that thanks to the agreements strengthened in 2022, relations between the two countries developed “fruitfully in various fields, and the coordination of efforts in international affairs was intensified.”

Next March, Russia and Venezuela celebrate 78 years of diplomatic relations, which were consolidated with the arrival of the Bolivarian Revolution to power, through the implementation of mutually beneficial policies for both countries.

He minister for foreign affairs from Russia, Sergei Lavrov, arrived in Venezuela on Tuesday to fulfill a work agenda in the country.

Venezuela is the second stop made by the Russian Foreign Minister on his tour of Latin America, after his visit to Brazil this Monday.
