Specifically, the Lower House endorsed the project with 120 votes in favor, three against, and 13 abstentions, mainly from the Communist Party (PC). Among those who gave their negative vote are the parliamentarians Mónica Arce, Tomás Hirsch and Félix González.

Along the same lines, the Chamber supported the modifications made by the Senate to the project that modifies the law that expands the powers of police control for the purposes of applying the measures established in the Law on Migration and Aliens.

In the middle of the debate, the deputy Andrés Longton (RN), criticized the position of the ruling party, pointing out that “one asks the Government and its parliamentarians for something very simple, the conviction that irregular migration is doing profound damage to our country regardless of the humanitarian situation”.

In this way, the initiative was dispatched to be promulgated as a law of the Republic.
