The creator of the striking design was Cao Xue and was selected among more than 5,800 proposals from China and 35 other countries that were part of the global contest organized by the Organizing Committee of the games.

Each of the designs was evaluated by important Chinese and other national designers and the final selection was made by teams from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and Jilin University of the Arts. Panda’s Choice, China’s national animalwas key to the final decision.

The Minister of the General Administration of Sport of China and executive president of the Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee, Gou Zhongwen; Chinese Vice Premier Han Zheng and International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach were in charge of presenting the mascot at a ceremony that took place at the Shougang Ice Hockey Arena in September 2019.

As a result of the voracious massive purchase in the country, manufacturers are already working to increase production so that no one is left without their pet, which looks quite similar to the stellar Kung Fu Panda that established its fame from the movies. But Bing Dwen Dwen has her own host of admirers, and the devotion promises to break all records.
