The city of Rio de Janeiro vaccinated against covid-19, less than half of the children aged 5 to 11 years expected at the posts.
According to data available in Rio Covid-19 Panelfrom the city hall, 44.6% of the 560,200 children in this age group were vaccinated.
Updated on Tuesday (8), the data show that 249,801 children were vaccinated in the city and that 310,426 have not yet received the vaccine. The schedule by age group, provided by the city, ends this Tuesday, with the vaccination of 5-year-old boys. As of tomorrow (9) the recap for all children aged 5 years and over.
In a note, the Municipal Health Department (SMS) says that it has constantly reinforced the importance of parents taking their children to be immunized against covid-19. According to SMS, as of tomorrow (9), the entire population aged 5 years and over can be vaccinated. The recap will be permanent.
To encourage adherence to vaccination, the secretariat gives each vaccinated child a “certificate of courage”. Some units were also decorated and promoted recreational activities to attract children, creating a pleasant and welcoming environment, added the secretary.

In addition, SMS says that, in joint action, the municipal health and education departments of Rio de Janeiro will actively search for children who, for some reason, have not yet been vaccinated. Vaccination will be scheduled at each school throughout the month of February.
