The cuban rowers signed a good start in the qualifying tournament for the next Panamerican Games de Santiago 2023, and that until next Wednesday will be held in the Laguna San Pedro de La Paz, in Chili.
Ángel Luis García, executive of the Cuban federation of that discipline, confirmed to the sports portal Hit that until now the representatives of the island have achieved the classification of the double boats for heavyweights of each sex, as well as the open weight single for women.

“We have had a strong opponent in the boats that we have had to rent to compete, although we have been improving in quality as the regattas have passed,” García, also the national commissioner of this sport, explained to the media.
On the opening day of the contest, the four pairs of short oars (4x) for men and women, open weight, advanced to finals A for Cuba. The pass to the AB semifinal was achieved by Ana Laura Jiménez in the single, add the report.
Yoelvis Hernández, Carlos Ajete, Maykol Julio Álvarez and Reidy Cardona dominated the race with a time of 5:53.91 minutes, and Yariulvis Cobas, Milena Venega, Jiménez and Natali Morales (6:50.28 minutes) finished in second position, behind Argentina. (6:46.85 minutes).
In the playoffs on Sunday, the Cubans Milena Venega and Yariulvis Cobas reached the final A of the women’s double (W2x), as did the men Carlos Ajete and Reidy Cardona (M2x). In addition, Yoelvis Hernández in the single men (M1x), who advanced to Tuesday’s A/B semifinal.

The qualifying event is attended by contenders from 17 nations, including in that group powers in this sport such as Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the United States.
In the contest, places will be distributed for six modalities of rowing at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games: scull (1x), double scull (2x), four sculls (4x), two without coxswains (2-), four without coxswains (4- ) and light double sculls (L2x) in men and women.
