The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI, for its acronym in English) announced the investigation, while revealing that, apparently, about six people met in a garage in downtown Washington, DC
Among the participants are the leader of Oath Keepers, Stewart Rhodes, and the president of Proud Boys, Enrique Tarrio, both faithful followers of former President Donald Trump (2017-2021), accused of inciting the insurrection.
According to official reports, only Rhodes was charged with “seditious conspiracy” after the riots.
The other leader was not on Capitol Hill at the time of the attack, as he allegedly left Washington after the meeting.
In June of last year, Tarrio downplayed the meeting, calling it an insignificant encounter and asserting that the Proud Boys had no part in planning the deadly Jan. 6 attack on Capitol Hill.
“By chance, I was inside that car park. It was a casual meeting, not premeditated,” said the extremist.
According to witnesses, the leader of the Latinos for Trump and Latinos For America First movement, Bianca Gracia, and an attorney from Oath Keepers, Kellye SoRelle, were also part of the meeting.
SoRella told the local press that during the meeting she did not discuss plans for the next day, but merely discussed political issues.
Both the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys are far-right groups that, along with Tarrio and Rhodes, have been cited by the January 6 panel.
Eighteen members of the Oath Keepers have been indicted by a federal grand jury in connection with the attack so far, as have at least 34 people connected to the other far-right group.
The authorities assure that the members of both movements were armed on January 6, 2021, the day that a mob of supporters of the former Republican president broke into the headquarters of Congress to try to stop Joe Biden’s victory in the November 2020 elections.
