The binational authorities announced that the Itaipu rate for 2023 was set at US$16.71/kW.
After the extraordinary meetings of the Executive Board and the Board of Directors, held today Monday, the Paraguayan authorities of ITAIPU announced in a press conference the rate defined for the current year, as well as the Budgetary Bases.
As reported, the Unit Cost of the Electricity Service (CUSE) for this year was established at $16.71 per kilowatt/monththus achieving an intermediate value with respect to the initial proposals presented by both margins.
With this achievement, each margin (Paraguay and Brazil) will access more than USD 400 million to implement new projects and give continuity to works and programs of socio-environmental responsibility, of high impact for the population.
The ING. Felix Sosa, president of ANDE, He stressed that this decision is a “brilliant opportunity to strengthen the Paraguayan electrical system” with the investments that can be made with the money that the country will receive.
Asked about the possibility of also reducing the ANDE rate, he specified that it could only be done after the April 30 elections.
This agreement occurs after Brazil made a reduction without consulting Paraguay. You have to remember that the neighboring country repeated the play of 2022, and since January 1 it resolved without consultation, reduce the rate price for your market by 38.9%, which thus went from USD 20.75 Kw/h (intermediate rate agreed for 2022) to only 12.67 Kw/h. Now a single rate has finally been agreed.

According to the appreciation of electric power experts, a further reduction in the rate ends up benefiting Brazil, given that this country consumes more electricity than Paraguay and therefore benefits to a greater extent from the reduction.
