Biden urges to restrict the use of weapons after several violent events

OnCubaNews

He american president returned to urge this Sunday to the Congress to approve laws that restrict the use of weaponsafter several violent events have been recorded, including the massacre at a birthday party on Saturday night.

“What has our nation come to when children cannot attend a birthday party without fear, when parents have to worry every time their children walk out the school door, to the movies or to the park?” asked Biden in a release quoted by efe.

Biden sent the message hours after it became known that at least four people were killed and more than a dozen injured after a shooting at a teenager’s birthday party in Dadeville, Alabama, on Saturday night.

The incident occurred the same day that at least two people were killed and four wounded by gunshots at a park in Louisville, Kentucky.

In this same city, last Monday five people died and another eight were injured, among them two police officers, in a shooting that took place in a bank.

“Firearms are the leading cause of death for children in the United States, and the numbers are rising, not falling,” the president added.

Biden assured that he is ready “to work in good faith on federal legislation that will save lives” and stressed that “it is within the power of Congress” to implement regulations such as “the safe storage of firearms, requiring background checks for all sales weapons, remove liability immunity for gun manufacturers, and ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.”

“Americans agree and want lawmakers to act on common sense gun safety reforms,” said Biden, who criticized the Republican Party for participating last week in the National Rifle Association annual meeting ( NRA, in English).

USA: More than half of the country has passed laws to carry weapons without a permit

Leading Republican hopefuls, including former President Donald Trump, were involved in defending the right of citizens to bear arms.

The United States has experienced at least 162 mass shootings so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which defines mass shootings as those in which four or more people are killed, not including the perpetrator of the attack, according to a report from efe.
