Brazil follows with concern the attempt to seize power in Sudan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) reported this Saturday (15) that the Brazilian government is following with concern the outbreak of episodes of violence in Sudan, an African country that is undergoing an attempt to take power by a paramilitary group.

The offensive came from the group called Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which claims to have taken control, this Saturday, of the presidential palace, the residence of the head of the Army, the international airport of Khartoum (capital of the country), plus airports in the cities of Merowe and El Obeid.

In the note, the Brazilian government reiterated its support for political negotiations between Sudanese leaders, with the aim of reestablishing a transitional civil government.

“The Brazilian government urges the parties to contain and immediately stop fighting. We reiterate our support for the efforts of the United Nations Security Council in this regard”, says an excerpt from the note.

Itamaraty also said that the Brazilian government is following the outbreak of violence in the country with concern and that it reiterates its support for political negotiations between Sudanese leaders, with the objective of reestablishing a transitional civil government.

Itamaraty added that it opened a channel to assist Brazilians who are in the country. The Brazilian community in Sudan is made up of around 15 nationals, with whom the Brazilian Embassy in Khartoum has been in contact.

“The phone number/WhatsApp of the Itamaraty consular service remains available for citizens who need support in that country: +55 61 98260-0610”, said the Itamaraty.
