Mexico City, Mexico.- Approximately 23% of Cuba will suffer the annoying blackouts during the afternoon-night of this Saturday, according to daily forecasts of the state company Unión Eléctrica (UNE).
The UNE forecasts for the day are based on a power generation capacity of 2,220 megawatts (MW) and a maximum demand of 2,800 MW.
Today’s forecast is not surprising. Throughout the week the rates of affectation began to rise, although they are still lower than those reported last year in summer. The energy deficit increased again from the end of February.
On the Facebook page of Unión Eléctrica de Cuba, several users have expressed their annoyance at the cuts.
A Cuban identified as Ivonne Urbay wrote on said page: “Summer began and with it the power cuts; and that they prepared all the “winter” so that there would be no lack of current, giving the necessary maintenance. So you have to prepare because I think it will be worse than last year. Remove the part of the TV that from now on is the same. Be serious in what you say and forecast. It is better that they say the blackouts are going to continue, and put the planning, and that’s it.
Unit 3 of the CTE Cienfuegos, unit 2 of the CTE Santa Cruz and unit 2 of the CTE Felton are currently out of service due to a breakdown. Unit 5 of the CTE Mariel, unit 3 of the CTE Santa Cruz, unit of the CTE Guiteras, unit 4 of the CTE Cienfuegos, unit 6 of the CTE Diez de Octubre and units 4 and 6 of the CTE Renté.
In addition to the precarious situation of terrestrial thermoelectric plants, with more than 30 years of use, the lack of investment and the fuel deficit are other causes that aggravate the national energy crisis.
