The Venezuelan ambassador to UNESCO, Rodulfo Pérez, pointed out today that the economic aggressions his country is facing do not separate it from the values of peace, equity, dignity and social commitment promoted by the multilateral entity.
That is part of our work here, to denounce at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) the unilateral coercive measures that the Venezuelan people have suffered for eight years and the actions we take to maintain our commitment. and not give in, he stressed in an interview with Latin Press.
In his opinion, progress on the issues and values defended by UNESCO in the midst of so many difficulties and shortcomings can only be explained by the will and resistance of the Venezuelan people and the Bolivarian revolution.
According to the diplomat, from the United States and the European Union (EU) drastic sanctions and coercive measures are imposed on Venezuela that impact the economy, the productive apparatus, the electrical system and all sectors, solely with the objective of unleashing crises. and discontent, even attacking the model of social justice promoted by the Bolivarian revolution.
“The consequences and problems that they have created are real and we do not hide them, however, it is not possible to deny the nobility and dignity of Venezuelans in the face of these attacks, which affect issues within the scope of Unesco’s competence,” he explained in this capital,” he said.
In this sense, Pérez stressed that in Venezuela they have not closed schools or renounced cultural initiatives and scientific development focused on the well-being of the population.
“We have continued working to present to the world elements of a cultural nature that can be recognized as intangible heritage of humanity,” he said.
A few days ago, Venezuela delivered to Unesco the candidacy files of the joropo tradition (musical and dance genre) and the practices of elaboration and consumption of cassava, the latter together with the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Honduras and Haiti, in a multinational effort unprecedented in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The ambassador also shared the experience of the National Center for Social Action for Music, the National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras and Choirs, and the scientific development achieved through biotechnology for the improvement of potato cultivation developed by Venezuela.
“Equally in sport, our athletes continue to defy the difficulties imposed on us to compete in international events and the State, executing, supported by science, a successful anti-doping policy,” he added.
