The senator and member of the Security Commission, Iván Flores (DC), referred to the different calls from the political spectrum to decree the measure of a State of Constitutional Exception in the Metropolitan region as a result of the current security situation that the capital after the murder of three police officers in less than a month.
In this sense, the parliamentarian pointed out the risk of persevering in a “logic of exceptionality, which does not serve to really address the challenges.” Likewise, he urged “an urgent and greater coordination between all the powers of the State, to combat crime in a comprehensive and efficient manner.”
“We cannot be working on the hope of the exception, the Government has to govern and make the institutions work, give support and equipment to the police, give them what the institutions that do prevention in the case of intelligence require, govern. Because, otherwise, at the end of the day we hand over the governance of the country to the States of Exception, and we already know who leads them and what their objective is,” Flores said.
“Governing cannot be by way of exceptionality, but it has to be in order to fulfill the sovereign’s mandate, and that is the country that is asking the government not to abandon its essential tasks, starting with security, but not to abandon, for example, the health improvement program, to solve the big problem we have in housing; the next social outbreak may come from there,” he added.
In view of the above, Flores ruled that “if there is no adequate coordination, if the information does not go down from the tops to all the institutions, we are not going to advance and we are going to continue trapped. Minister Tohá has undoubtedly been Hit hard, it has been absorbing the government’s comprehensive inability in this and other matters, the inability to coordinate and conduct an issue that concerns us all and not leave the field open to other political sectors.”
