VP Mérida requests elections in the Cardenal Quintero municipality, after the resignation of its mayor

Relatives of Yovani González, who resigned from his position as mayor of the Cardenal Quintero municipality in Merida, assured Voluntad Popular that there were threats that would have removed the now former mayor from his management, but party spokesmen consider that a formal complaint should be made to the prosecution

The coordinator of Voluntad Popular (VP) in Mérida, Lubin Díaz, offered a press conference to request the National Electoral Council (CNE) to organize elections that allow the population of the Cardenal Quintero municipality of Merida to decide who will be their new mayor, after That confirm the resignation of Yovani Gonzálezwho won in the 2021 regional elections.

For the orange awning, it will be necessary to call elections to comply with what the Constitution dictates, since it establishes that, if there is an absolute lack of an official in a position of popular election before half of his management period is completed , his successor must be chosen by vote.

«The party requests the CNE that, after 30 days, they call an electoral process, as established by the Constitution. The people of Cardenal Quintero want clean and transparent elections to be repeated so that the new mayor of that municipality can be chosen,” said Díaz.

González informed about his resignation this Tuesday, April 11, through a video posted on social mediain which he exposed the precarious conditions in which he worked when he did not receive resources from the Executive and argued that he did more for the Cardenal Quintero municipality in little more than a year of management than what was done for the two previous periods.

González’s resignation materialized in particular circumstances, since he had been absent from office since March 17 and it was not until almost a month later that he reported on his decision, while rumors arose about possible threats that both he and his family had received and the need to flee the state for security reasons.

Faced with these rumors, the VP spokesman in Mérida confirmed that the mayor’s relatives affirm that such threats did exist, but stresses that the complaint must be filed with the Prosecutor’s Office and the process must be executed within the framework of the law.

“We have spoken with relatives, they tell us that there were threats, but the party is clear that if there are threats, they must go to the courts. You must go to the Prosecutor’s Office and act with the truth ahead,” Díaz said.

Regarding González’s management, Díaz agreed that he did not have the resources of the Executive, but insisted that all those who run for popularly elected positions know the rules of the game and take it for granted that Chavismo will not lower the resources unless it is a member of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).

«We help you to do a management hand in hand with the community, without resources. All those who participate in this already know that the Executive sends resources to those who are agents of the PSUV, officials and allies with Nicolás Maduro. They (the opponents) are not sent and only participate on wages and salaries, “he stressed.
