The Yanomami indigenous people, in Roraima, will receive another 10 tons of food donated by Ação da Cidadania. The 500 basic baskets with various products began to be assembled yesterday (13) and will be transported by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) later this week. The initiative is part of the actions of the task force that operates in the Yanomami Indigenous Land in support actions and health care, integrated logistics and food security for the indigenous people.
In total, the campaign – started in January – collected 30 tons of food. The National Supply Company (Conab) is responsible for the logistics of receiving the baskets.

In addition to food, Ação da Cidadania has already delivered 1,000 tool kits for planting and reforestation, pots and utensils, 1,000 hygiene and cleaning kits, geriatric and children’s diapers, bedding, hammocks and sandals.
The social movement was founded in 1993 by sociologist Herbert de Souza, better known as Betinho, and leads the SOS Yanomami campaign. Citizenship Action points out that 570 Yanomami children have died of hunger in the last four years, and hundreds of elderly people and children are in a situation of acute malnutrition.
