'Manita' de Tigres to get into the semifinals

The Mexican UANL Tigres thrashed Honduran Motagua 5-0 this Thursday and qualified for the semifinals of the Concacaf Champions League in which they will face León.

In the second leg of the quarterfinals, the Frenchman André-Pierre Gignac, with a double, the Colombian Luis Quiñones, Jesús Angulo and the Argentinean Nicolás Ibáñez scored the goals with which the cats sentenced the series 6-0 to their favor, after winning the first leg match in Honduras 1-0 last week.

The Tigers dominated the first half against a Motagua team that barely had 29 percent possession of the ball without generating offensive play.

The cats opened the scoring at minute 27 when Luis Quiñones entered the area from the left and delayed the ball to Gignac, who hit it with first intention near the crescent to make it 1-0 through the right post of Argentine goalkeeper Jonathan Rougier .

The local team continued in the search to end the series, however Rougier saved shots from Gignac, at 34, from the Uruguayan Nicolás López, at 38, and from Sebastián Córdova, at 39.

The Hondurans did not react in the second part and the cats finished the beating.

At 66, the Brazilian Rafael Carioca assisted Gignac from midfield, who outwitted Rougier to, with the open frame, define the 2-0.

Quiñones made it 3-0 at 83, with a left-footed shot that entered Rougier’s right corner. In a counterattack at 88, Jesús Angulo received a pass from Quiñones and crossed Rougier with his left foot to make it 4-0.

Ibáñez, due to speed, beat a defender and made it 5-0 at 90.
