Before the Government and Congress announce the agreement for a security agenda, President Gabriel Boric addressed one of the points that will include these talks: the draft Law on the Rules for the Use of Force (RUF).
Within the framework of his visit to the Arica and Parinacota region, the President stressed the importance of the initiative, which orders established provisions and standards on the use of force for officials of the Armed Forces and Public Order and Security. “This is necessary, and the police themselves have asked us for it,” he assured.
“It is important that the police have clear rules. Not because of the state of commotion we are in, it can lead to a lack of control from the point of view of civil power over the police, and the police themselves do not want it. So, let’s not install false dichotomies,” he said, adding that “it is good for everyone to know what the clear rules are in order to proceed.”
Along the same lines, he declared that “the police have to have greater security, and that requires improving training, equipment, endowment, vehicles, their armor, all of which is part of the plans that we have announced.”
“Here we are doing things that have not been done in a long time, which is why I invite all political sectors to join this crusade, and not take advantage, because every fight or offense that we do among ourselves is, in the end, a weakening of the state,” he said.
“We are going to support our police in that, with clear rules, that they themselves ask of us,” concluded President Boric.
