This Thursday, the National Assembly (AN) approved by a qualified majority the draft Agreement for the sensitive death of the former president of the National Electoral Council (CNE) and Minister for University Education, Tibisay Lucena.
The agreement was presented by deputy Desirée Santos Amaral, who highlighted the work carried out by Lucena while she was a member of the National Constituent Assembly, as well as her legacy in the Electoral power.
“This Constitution has a lot of her (Tibisay Lucena), because she was our partner, and we attest to her loyal work, her disciplined attitude and her expertise,” said Santos Amaral.
In ordinary session, the parliamentarian stated that – from her place – Lucena was in charge of promoting gender parity for all the resolutions that would be executed in electoral matters
“She was a humble worker and earned everyone’s respect (…) Parity promoted us, 50% of the resolutions in favor of women having the same spaces, in electoral bodies, in the instance of popular election. She was a woman who believed in the struggle of women and in the protection of women’s rights, ”she emphasized.
Tibisay Lucena defeated hatred and human misery
Santos Amaral described Lucena as a “woman of honor who defeated hatred and human misery.”
In this regard, he stated that his death should serve as a call to raise the flags of national unity, as recorded in the events of April 11, 12, and 13, 2002.
“That she undertook that last trip on April 12 has a lot to do with it, because these last few days have been pain, anger, anguish, for Chavismo, because we have once again experienced moments of betrayal,” Santos Amaral said. .
“Today April 13 has to have a meaning, because she is calling us to unity. She summons us to the unity we had 21 years ago”, added the parliamentarian.
The president of the AN, Jorge Rodríguez, also spoke on this point, who praised Lucena’s sustained work in his political sphere even in the midst of his medical treatment and in the face of attacks from sectors of the extreme right.
After the project was approved by a qualified majority, the parliamentarians made a posthumous tribute to Lucena, with a minute of applause.
