“Cuba first”: the song of the Goddess and Lenier is an invitation not to be silent

Cuba primero, La Diosa, Lenier

CDMX, Mexico. — “Cuba Primero” is the title of the new song performed by La Diosa with Lenier Mesa, which will be released next Sunday, April 16.

From their social networks, the singers have revealed some fragments of the audiovisual. In the images, in addition to the interpreters, Cuban activists, artists and former political prisoners appear dressed in white, running along the beach and at times with bloody clothes.

The audiovisual, directed by Armando Labrador, who also wrote the song, recreates different moments that marked national history such as Operation Peter Pan, the repression, the political prisoners, the collapse of the Tug March 13 and the lives lost in the sea that separates the island from Florida.

“Don’t wait any longer”: the message of “Cuba First”

So far the lyrics of the theme have not been published, however CubaNet was present during the filming of the video and interviewed several of those involved. What does “Cuba First” say?

“It is an opportunity to defend our land and defend our people,” commented exclusively Lenier Mesa, who for the first time joins her voice to that of La Diosa.

“The message of the song is dedicated to all the people who have not spoken, who have not denounced the repression and all the bad things that are happening in our country.” The theme specifically calls on artists and opinion leaders not to wait any longer and asks them: “Are you going to keep quiet, artist, you who have a voice?”

“Cuba needs an urgent change, they have been there for many years. I have not gone through that but I put myself in the place of all those who have suffered repression”, comments Lenier about the reasons why he joined the initiative.

Among the Cubans invited to participate in the audiovisual were former political prisoners Jorge Luis García Pérez, known as “Antúnez”, Esteban Rodríguez and Thais Mailén Franco. Also present were Ramón Saúl Sánchez, President of the Democracy Movement, comedian Andy Vázquez and Kiele Cabrerathe young woman who launched herself in 2021 at the West Palm Beach stadium during a match in the Americas Pre-Olympic Tournament.

“Initiatives like these are necessary because they contribute to the recovery of memory. The regime is engaged in erasing memory but with these projects we help to inform the new generations and involve them”, commented Antúnez.

The former prisoner, who spent 17 years incarcerated in Cuba, said he was excited to see the young people in exile.

“Many of those who are here today were children or had not been born when the older ones were imprisoned in Cuba. This is not a question of relief, but of continuity, so that Cuba continues to come first.”

The premiere of the song and its video clip will be this Sunday, at 6:00 p.m., through the YouTube channel sing it tv. The prelude to the event will be the first “red carpet in homage to the Cuban opposition.”
