President Luis Lacalle Pou holds them in high musical esteem and it is likely that he will not like to see them involved in the parliamentary minutiae in which they became entangled.
On completing 45 years on the stages of the duo made up of Eduardo Larbanois and Mario Carrero, Frente Amplio legislator Óscar Andrade proposed this Wednesday a tribute session in the Senate “as a humble recognition” to the singers and shortly after he tweeted: “Cabildo Open and the National Party have already announced that they reject the initiative. Regrettable”.
This is how he unleashed a discussion with the nationalist Graciela Bianchi on the networks. “That does not conform to the truth,” Bianchi said, adding that the opposition legislators offered the Hall of Lost Steps or “other rooms for special events, for a better display of the tribute.”
“We never understand lies to foster resentment”, he insisted, to which Andrade replied that they wanted a tribute in the room like the one they did to the tango singer Olga del Grossi. The minor controversy continued with some more tweets.
But President Lacalle Pou has dedicated several public “tributes” to the controversial duo, mentioning it on their networks, in the electoral campaign and highlighting them on a playlist.
In the campaign for the 2014 elections, the current president reached out to Larbanois-Carrero to respond to Vice President Raúl Sendic who had made reference to the lineage of the last names of the opposition candidates. “It’s not a matter of gargantuar singing bravado / so that the prairie grows better the gentle drizzle / it’s not a good thing to blame a singer and his guitar / the rebellion or the scream that his singing awakens,” he tweeted with the verses of the song Of a singer and his guitar who performs the duo.
Shortly after, he used the same song to answer José Mujica who questioned the whites for their criticism of the nationalist government.
“It is not a good thing to blame a singer and his guitar for the rebellion or the cry that his singing aroused,” wrote Lacalle Pou. In that same campaign, Lacalle Pou compared the duo with the electoral formula that united him with Jorge Larrañaga. “It’s as if we were a duo, like Larbanois-Carrero, who seems to be singing only one of them for so long that they’ve been singing together. We are trying to be Larbanois and Carrero. We are starting ”, he said in an act in Lavalleja.
In addition, in March 2020, President Lacalle Pou included Larbanois-Carrero in a playlist in which he highlighted the songs conclusions and Guess guesser.
