The Colorado Party has decided not to support the current pension reform proposal. Last Tuesday, legislators from both party blocs met to analyze the modifications that Cabildo Abierto had proposed for the pension reform.
After the announcement of these modifications, the representatives of the Colorado Party considered that the debate had been reopened, and they began to elaborate their own proposals.
Although it was planned to resume the vote in the special commission of the Chamber of Deputies this Thursday, it has been decided to request an intermediate room to carefully analyze the situation, which will delay the approval of the project.
Deputy Conrado Rodríguez explained that the proposed modifications alter one of the pillars that the coalition agreed to vote on last year. Given this scenario, the Colorado Party considers that the negotiation has been reopened and hopes to be able to reach a new agreement that will allow the social security reform to move forward, respecting the sustainability of the system.
The pension reform in suspense
At this time, the representatives of the Colorado Party consider that The necessary conditions are not met to advance in the vote. Therefore, they will continue discussing the issue in the coming days, with a seven-day extension, and will present their own proposals at the meeting on April 20.
For now, the pension reform, one of the banners of the government of Luis Lacalle Pou, continues to be truncated and fails to find the necessary votes in Parliament to be approved.
