Teachers again break the dialogue with the Government and announce the filing of their protests

The dialog reinstalled between authorities of the Ministry of Education and leaders of urban teachers failed againafter the teachers decided to break the negotiation process in the early hours of this Wednesday.

“We have spent more than eight hours in a dialogue of the deaf; Unfortunately, the position of the Minister of Education (Edgar Pary), since this conflict began until now, has not changed at all, he continues with the same arguments, with the same demagoguery and with the same excuses to say no to the proposals of education urban, carried out through the urban teachers”, said the leader Patricio Molina upon leaving the meeting that had been reinstated on Tuesday night.

The leader added that “the dialogue has practically been a waste of time” because, according to his version, the teachers in vain “broke their backs” explaining the reasons for the need for more items, more hours to cover the historical deficit or for what should stop the application of the new contents of the curriculum.

However, Minister Pary stated that from the beginning it was clearly expressed that the items will be managed.

We said that “we are going to work on the issue of the items, but when they tell us here ‘the 4,000 or nothing’, what do we answer; (…) Right now we are finishing (distributing) 2,500 items and after that we are going to sit down (again) ”, he added.

Regarding the historical deficit, the authority recalled that first they offered 4,000 hours, then 5,000 and finally 8,000.

“But it is insufficient (for them), when last year we have worked with 12,000 hours the historical deficit and today we have also expressed that we are going to reach that number, but they do not accept it either,” lamented Pary.

However, the teachers’ leaders pointed out that the Ministry of Education does not want to increase more items and warned against radicalizing its pressure measures.

“We want to make it clear that the mobilizations of the urban teachers will continue and everything that happens from now on will be the responsibility of the Ministry of Education,” said Molina.

In this sense, for this day the teachers have planned new mobilizations and announced that they will continue in the streets every day that are necessary until their demands are met.

Urban teachers have been mobilized since March 6 to demand attention to their petition and during these weeks they staged a series of protest marches amid some gassing, partial strikes of school activities, roadblocks, and even set up hunger strike pickets, which still persist.
